Do you rent to people under 21 years of age or prom parties?

No we do not, and the reason is that Suffolk County's Social Host Law calls for an adult to be responsible in a house, and in the event of any underage drinking it is that person who gets arrested by the Police.  We do not control what goes on in the house, that it is the responsibility of the Leasee.  In the event of a violation of this new law, we provide the name of the person on the lease, to the Police as the responsible person.

Will I have the exclusive use of the house for the time I am there?

You absolutely will be the only people in the house. This is not a share house.

How do I get to Fire Island?

You take the Fire Island Ferry, from Bay Shore.  The ferry site has driving directions listed on the main web page.  Once at the ferry you need to follow the follow the Ocean Bay Park Schedule, they have a lot of ferries running throughout the day, and their website has an easy to follow schedule.

Can I drive my car on Fire Island?

You cannot drive a car onto Fire Island, although there are a small amount of cars on the island, those belong to essential service personnel and year round residents.

Can I take my own boat over to your house?

Yes.  Flynn's has dock space for rent.  They charge you a certain amount according to the size of your boat.  Part of the fee is given back to you as a voucher for use in the restaurant.  Contact Flynn's to go over the specifics of your boat, length of stay etc.   You can also anchor your boat just off the shore in the bay and wade in, which is free.

Can I bring over my own bicycle and surfboard etc?

Yes, but not on the passenger ferry with you.  They have to go on the freight ferry, which will accept all goods for shipment. There are rules on how to go about it though.   Follow these directions and you can't go wrong.

Can I show up early and drop off my belongings before my check-in time?

No.  Your period starts at the time in the contract.  The cleaning staff is very busy running between houses, doing sheets and cleaning the houses prior to your check-in time.  We have them clean every inch of the inside and outside of the house, including hosing down all decks.

Can I rent just one or two nights?

We don't rent by the night during the summer.  During May, September and October we may.

How far of a walk is the house from the ferry?

Our houses are about a five minute walk from the ferry terminal.

From the Ferry, How do I get to 19 East Cayuga Walk?

Leave the wagon area and make a left at the police station on Bay View Avenue and go three blocks to Cayuga Walk, and make a right. Go South towards the Fire Island Hotel. We are house #19, which is the ninth house on your right, located at the corner of Cayuga Walk and Midway.  The entrance is right off of Cayuga Walk and is marked with a sign over the doorway "19 IKEA East".

From the Ferry, How do I get to 19 West Cayuga Walk?

Leave the wagon area and make a left at the police station on Bay View Avenue and go three blocks to Cayuga Walk, and make a right. Go South towards the Fire Island Hotel. We are house #19, which is the ninth house on your right, located at the corner of Cayuga Walk and Midway.  Make a right at Midway and walk around the house, to the entrance on Midway.  The entrance is marked with a sign over the doorway "19 IKEA West".

From the Ferry, How do I get to 2 Seneca Walk?

Leave the wagon area and make a left at the police station on Bay View Avenue and go two blocks to Seneca Walk and make a right. The house is the first one on the left, on the corner of Bay View and Seneca Walk.

From the Ferry, How do I get to 35 Seneca Walk?

Leave the wagon area and make a left at the police station on Bay View Avenue and go two blocks to Seneca Walk and make a right. Walk down Seneca Walk and the house is the second to last house on your right.

Will there be propane at the house for the barbeque?

Yes there will.

Can I buy groceries and beer and alcohol on the island?

Yes, there is a market in town and one in Seaview and two in Ocean Beach, it costs more on the island, but they have everything.

Do I need keys to the house?

You are given a code just prior to your arrival time which opens the door.

How far is the beach from the houses?

From 35 Seneca Walk it is 18 seconds (timed).  From 2 Seneca and 19 East and West Cayuga it is about 3-4 minutes.

Is it true that you can't eat or drink on the beach?

Not true, you are able to eat and drink on the walks and on the beach.  The land of "NO" is Ocean Beach, not Ocean Bay Park.

How will I get around on the island without a car?

Like everyone else does, by bicycle or walking.  We provide 5 bicycles per house for your use.

Are there any bars and restaurants nearby?

There are four awesome bars, in no particular order there is Flynn's, Hurricanes in the Fire Island Hotel, The Schooner, and The Inn Between, and all are about a five minute walk from anywhere in Ocean Bay Park.

Are your houses "share houses"?

No. We prefer to rent by the week so we can take weeks for ourselves and our families to use throughout the summer.  Another reason we do it the way we do, is that most share houses get a lot of wear and tear, and as the owners you usually don't find out until the end of the summer just how much. With our way, we maintain the houses two times a week and keep a tight check on the damages.

How do I get to Ocean Beach from Ocean Bay Park?

It is approximately a 1 1/3 mile to Ocean Beach due west, which is about a 20 Minute Walk, or a 10 minute bike ride, or a 4 minute Water Taxi Ride.

Can I bring a dog or cat to the house?

No.  We do not allow them.  The wear and tear on the house is extra, as is the chance of odors etc.  More importantly, we state that it is a pet free house, so we have a responsibility to the next renters who may be allergic.  Your pet maybe the best little thing in the world, or hypoallergenic, or short-haired, or doesn't shed, or be hairless etc, but we will forgo renting it to you rather than expose ourselves to litigation should someone get ill.

Can I save the cleaning fee if I clean myself?

No.  It seems that some people's version of clean varies, so to keep it at a known level of clean, we contracted with Patricia's Cleaning Service and have not had a single problem since.  If she ever were to mess up, we can call her, she will come back and correct things.  If your family or friends do a poor job, we can't see them coming back from NYC to Swifter the floors again.  The cleaning crew also checks the house for damages while cleaning.

What time is check out?

10:00am is the check-out time sharp. Leaving late really impacts our cleaning schedule, so we have since amended our lease agreements to state that the security deposit is retained in the case of late check-out.

Am I responsible for any electric or water bills or other utilities?

No.  The price for the rental period includes water and electric and all other utilities.

How do I get my security deposit back?

If there is no damage and no items missing, we do the security deposits within 14 days or so, in check form, by mail
